Simple Steps

TO THE PERFECT

PartyPony !
The pony tail has been around just about forever. It is a timeless and classic look that works everywhere from the morning at the gym to a hot date with “Jim”! It is one of those ultimate feminine looks that have the power to make you feel sweet and innocent one day and sassy and sexy the next. A pony tail is great for anyone, and any age. And it works for every face shape, and with almost any style. I am going to outline the steps needed to put a stylish twist on the old classic.
Ok, first things first. If you are starting with clean wet hair you will want to apply the right product and blow dry using a round or paddle brush. If you have straight hair I suggest using something that will help to add a little volume. I personally love AVEDA’s Volumizing Tonic. Simply spray at the roots and through the ends and blow dry upside down until most of the water is out of your hair. Flip your head upright and dry hair section by section using a round brush to build body. Continue working through every section of your hair until it is completely dry.
If your hair is curly you will have to decide if you want to straighten out your natural curl or if you want to embrace nature and go with it! If you decide to go against the flow and blow out your hair for a smoother sleeker look, definitely use a product to help cut frizz and protect your hair from the heat of the blow dryer. Being a girl with some frizzy curl of my own, I recommend (and can’t live without) AVEDA’s Smooth Infusion™ Glossing Straightener. If you want to work with the curl that you have, go with something to help hold and define the curl. AVEDA’s Be Curly Curl Enhancer is a perfect choice.
Once your hair is dry, go through hair section by section with the curling iron. Your sections should be no more that 2” thick. We aren’t really going for a strong curl here, just a little wave to play up the sexiness. Feel free to try this hair style on straight or curly hair. It will really work well for all hair textures.
Now that you have gotten some wave into your hair we are going to start the actual style. Using your comb and starting at the top of your head, comb down from the top of your head to the top of your ear. You can do this on either side; I usually prefer to do it on the “heavy” side of the part.
(Or the side that has the most hair.)

Using the hair from that section twist it forward and clip it out of your way for the next step.
Gather the remaining hair into a pony tail at the back of your head with an elastic hair band. Once you have your hair secured take the clipped hair down and pull it back toward the elastic band and wrap it around the band until you come about 1 ½” from the ends. Secure the remaining ends with a few bobby pins.
Use hair spray to tame any “fly aways” into place.

Styling your hair is just like everything else. Practice makes perfect! Have fun, and play around with it when you are feeling in one of those creative girl moods. You will be surprised what you can come up with.
