"We Should Keep Ourselves Beautiful at Every Age!"

From a few months ago: Me and my mom, whom I think is the most beautiful woman I know.

"My biggest influences are strong, creative women that cart their own path, lead their own lives and drive the course of history."-Rachel Roy 38
In my latin culture, a woman is supposed to age gracefully and stay beautiful her entire life. However, here in America, women believe that when they hit 40 it's over for them. Many times I've had women sit in my chair saying that since they have hit a certain age in their life that they feel the need to cut off their hair and be conservative in their dress. As a younger hair dresser, I would think "Weird, all my aunts were so beautiful, cared for their appearance and wore heels well into their 50's." I'm in my 40's now and I say, "Heck  NO!" to that! It's not ok for women to feel that they cannot be sexy at a certain age. I'm not saying show EVERYTHING or act like the women in the Real Desperate Housewives of Orange County who dress like they ARE 20. As if the tight jeans and overly tanned face will hide the 25 years of smoking, drinking and sun damage. You can be beautiful no matter how old you are-whether you're 20 or 90. You can be sexy and attractive no matter what.  Never throw away your pink lipstick or that little black dress, or even consider cutting your hair off like Conan O'Brian just because you've "hit that certain age."

I find it funny that sexy is for twenty something's. I think as we get older we understand our bodies better. When I was younger, I actually had no Idea what I was doing with my body or some of out fits in the name of sexy. It wasn't until I had my first child that I began to understand my body and myself. I understood what it meant to be sexy, became more confident with my body and sexuality and began to feel like a woman and not a girl anymore. In Europe they believe that women are even more desirable after 30! I think America is the only country obsessed with the age to beauty and sexiness issue. It can be the Puritanistic beginnings of this country. It can be that the media needs to think that Brooklyn Decker is only this sexy bombshell and that she can't open up her mouth or sound intelligent, empowered, and independently secure. Sadly, I think that after you pass your mid-30s that's exactly how a woman sounds. Why can't a beautiful and sexy women be intelligent? Actually, why does an intellectual older woman feel that she can't be sexy?!  Education and life experiences bring confidence and knowledge to everyone. You can have the best of both: Being an intelligent woman who looks and feels sexy in her own skin. Don't use the excuse that you're too old or too busy with work and the family; Always make time for yourself! And never ever let your self go, no excuses. We are the beautiful in this planet Earth. We must be beautiful for ourselves, for our babies, for our mates, for life. Oh! and don't forget to moisturize!
